Zinc ricinoleate is a natural odor binder and absorber made from ricinoleic acid, derived from castor (Ricinus communis) seeds and zinc salts. It is a vegan, 99% biodegradable white powder. It is used as an effective deodorant and detergent base and is widely applied in natural and skin-sensitive products, including cleansers, deodorants, body washes, and detergents. Zinc ricinoleate works by binding and absorbing odor molecules created during the decomposition of bacteria from perspiration. It does not mask the odor but destroys it and renders it undetectable. Zinc ricinoleate is safe and does not interfere with the skin’s natural perspiration. In addition to neutralizing odor, zinc ricinoleate is an anti-caking and opacifying agent. Its main constituent, ricinoleic acid, functions as a skin conditioning agent, emulsion stabilizer, and surfactant. Zinc ricinoleate is Whole Foods-approved for use in natural personal care products.
